beyond their borders.
Arts Council England assesses directly for Combined Arts, Dance, Literature, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts. The threshold: 'outstanding quality' work with international recognition earned in the last five years. ACE is the only arts endorser with a Promise variant for every discipline.
What your pack must include.
- CV highlighting artistic achievements rather than educational milestones
- Three recommendation letters from recognised arts experts — curators, editors, directors, senior peers
- Up to 10 pieces of evidence showing international recognition (Talent: work shown in 2+ countries; Promise: 1+)
- Portfolio of creative work: reviews, exhibition catalogues, publication credits, performance footage, press coverage
- Evidence of advancing the art form or influencing others — teaching, curation, editorship, speaking
- All evidence within the last 5 years — older work is excluded
The signals that actually score.
- ✦Artistic innovation: a distinct voice, new approach, or demonstrable influence on peers
- ✦International reach: exhibitions, performances, residencies, or reviews outside your country of origin
- ✦Peer recognition within your arts community — senior figures engaging with your work
- ✦Sustained output: a body of work, not a single breakout
Where applications fail.
- ×Evidence older than 5 years — ACE excludes it automatically
- ×Commercial success (book sales, streaming numbers) without critical recognition
- ×Brief mentions in media treated as 'substantial' coverage
- ×Local or regional recognition only — ACE is explicit that Talent needs international reach
- ×Over-long personal statements that don't cite specific works or moments
